Fire Island National Seashore is seeking a Seasonal Supervisory Recreational Aid and Assistant (Surf-Lifeguard) to manage and supervise the Seashore's protected beaches and water safety recreation program. Responsibilities

Responsible for the professional management and supervision of the Seashore's protected beaches, water safety recreation use program and emergency services
Responds to emergency water related calls in and outside of the protected beach zones utilizing a rescue floatation device and swim fins, or a rescue board or kayak
Develops and provides training to Seashore personnel in the following areas: CPR/ AED, first aid, oxygen administration and personal safety procedures; the Seashore's lifeguard standard operation procedures, including search and rescue techniques; proper use, care and maintenance of equipment; communication system and report writing procedure and submission
Provides supervision to GS-3, GS-4, GS-5 and GS-6 Recreational Aid and Assistant (Lifeguard) personnel
Ensures educational information is presented and distributed to park visitors, neighbors, staff and others

Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment
You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required
You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work
Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program
Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license prior to entry on duty
Must be able to obtain and maintain nationally recognized certificates in CPR/AED, and First-Aid within 30 days of entry on duty
Must be able to obtain and maintain nationally recognized instructor's certificate in lifeguarding within 30 days of entry on duty
You must be able to pass the surf-lifeguard test
At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in federal service
Successful completion of 1 full year of graduate education where it is DIRECTLY related to the work of the position
Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above
