Student Assistant, Character Performer
The University of Florida is seeking a Student Assistant, Character Performer to engage guests through expressive, non-verbal communication while portraying assigned costume characters. The role involves performing at events, posing for photos, and adhering to performance guidelines to maintain character integrity.

Responsibilities
Portray assigned costume characters, including Clifford the Big Red Dog and Brooks the Bobcat
Interact with guests using non-verbal communications, gestures, and character appropriate movements
Pose for photos with event guests, families, and event staff
Perform simple, family-friendly freestyle dancing when appropriate
Follow all costume performance guidelines, including:
No speaking while in costume
No photos with other characters
No behavior inconsistent with UF or Lastinger Center standards
Remain aware of safety considerations and costume limitations, such as restricted vision and movement
Assist with event set up and tear down as requested
Maintain costume integrity by transporting, handling, and wearing costumes with care
Support other character actors as their handler by transporting them to and from their primary location
Qualification
Required
This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average
Registered students are employed on a part-time basis
Preferred
Ability to work in hot, confining, heavy costume with limited range of vision covering your head
Height and build requirements due to costume dimensions: Clifford: 5'6 to 5'10” between 120-150 lbs; Brooks the Bobcat: 5'7” to 6'1” and average build
Willingness to work at different locations in Florida, including outdoor locations
Ability to remain in costume for extended periods, with breaks provided
Strong interpersonal skills and comfort engaging with children and families
