Responsibilities
Lead the design, configuration, and management of desktop infrastructure, both on-premise and in the cloud
Provide 3rd-line maintenance and support for a global desktop infrastructure, keeping endpoints up-to-date and addressing vulnerabilities, security risks, and identifying future technology opportunities
Engage with end users through face-to-face interactions, demonstrating a commitment to delivering exceptional service
Drive project work using structured methodologies, providing regular updates, and mentoring team members
Oversee escalated technical issues, ensuring prompt service restoration and ongoing team development
Lead the troubleshoot and resolution of complex technical issues, providing guidance to engineers and ensuring quick resolution
Mentor and support team members by identifying knowledge gaps and providing ongoing training and development opportunities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in end user infrastructure management processes
Develop, maintain, and improve internal Knowledge in Jira, ensuring they are up-to-date and easily accessible for the team
Oversee and manage the technical escalation process, ensuring timely and effective issue resolution
Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization, mentoring the team in implementing solutions
Ensure adherence to service level agreements (SLAs) and operational procedures while fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
Manage and support end user technology platforms including deployment, security, device management and application packaging
Produce all technical documentation associated with each platform and service such as HLD, LLDs and TDGs
Incorporate continual rollouts, upgrades and removals of applications ensuring the Business remains compliant and secure
Qualification
Required
Deep Linux expertise, extensive experience with enterprise-grade Linux distributions such as Ubuntu
Understanding of their package management systems (APT)
Advanced proficiency in shell scripting: Bash is essential; Python is highly desirable, for automation, troubleshooting, and system administration
Configuration management experience using Puppet required
In-depth knowledge of user and group management, file system management (LVM, RAID), process management, service management (systemd, SysVinit, and kernel tuning
Hands-on experience with virtualisation technologies like VMware vSphere, KVM, and containerisation platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes
Understanding of Linux security best practices, SELinux, user permissions, SSH hardening, and vulnerability management
Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana
Git/Gitlab experience
Strong leadership skills with experience managing and delivering projects at scale, large scale application roll outs, upgrade and removals end to end
Excellent communication and attention to detail, capable of conveying technical information to non-technical stakeholder
