ASSOCIATE TAX AUDITOR, BOARD OF EQUALIZATION
The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration is seeking an Associate Tax Auditor to conduct audits primarily in the restaurant and cannabis industries. The role involves independently conducting audits, preparing reports, and explaining findings to taxpayers while requiring significant travel and potential court testimony.

Responsibilities
Independently conducts audits that generally consist of retailers in the restaurant and cannabis industry and other business enterprises
Conducts fraud/tax evasion audits and may testify in court to liabilities determined
Makes audit appointments; meets with taxpayers and their representatives; explains audit findings; and prepares appropriate audit reports and written correspondence to taxpayers
Qualification
Required

Position requires employee to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a background investigation
This position is designated as a mobile worker position and will require an incumbent to spend the majority of their time (fifty percent or more) working at various locations other than their home or office in a single day (CMAP 1014)
The position requires the incumbent to travel at least fifty percent (50%) of the time, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or overnight travel in various locations statewide
Work long irregular hours, both in and out of the office is various locations
Preferred
Have a permanent civil service appointment with CDTFA, or
Are current or former employees of the legislature for 2 or more years as defined in Government Code 18990, or
Are current or former non-elected exempt employees of the executive branch for 2 or more consecutive years as defined in Govt. Code 18992, or
Are persons retired from the United States military honorably discharged from active duty with a service disability or honorably discharged from active duty as defined in Government Code 18991. Applicants must provide a copy of discharge papers (DD 214) for verification purposes at the time of application
