The role requires deep technical expertise across IBM mainframe platforms and involves guiding teams through complex legacy modernization and integration initiatives.

Responsibilities
Define mainframe architecture strategy aligned with enterprise IT and modernization roadmaps
Design scalable, secure, and high-availability mainframe solutions
Lead legacy modernization initiatives (re-engineering, re-platforming, API enablement)
Define integration patterns between mainframe and distributed/cloud systems
Act as technical lead for mainframe development, maintenance, and migration programs
Provide hands-on guidance and code reviews for development teams
Resolve complex production issues and performance bottlenecks
Drive best practices, standards, and governance across mainframe solutions
Lead development using COBOL, PL/I, Assembler , and JCL
Work extensively with CICS , IMS , DB2 , and VSAM
Oversee batch and online processing systems
Enable API / Microservices exposure of mainframe functions
Support DevOps practices for mainframe (CI/CD, automation)
Lead initiatives involving:
Mainframe to cloud/hybrid integration
Application rationalization
Data modernization
Performance optimization and cost reduction
Evaluate and recommend tools for modernization and migration
Work closely with business stakeholders, product owners, and enterprise architects
Translate business requirements into technical architecture
Support estimation, planning, and delivery governance
Mentor and upskill junior and mid-level engineers
Qualification
Required
10+ years of experience in IBM Mainframe environments
Strong expertise in COBOL / PL-I / Assembler
JCL
CICS, IMS, DB2
VSAM
Deep understanding of batch and online processing
