Responsibilities
Supervise and manage all yard employees, delegating specific duties and responsibilities to each team member and ensuring accountability for their tasks
Efficiently manage staffing levels, hiring employees as needed and scheduling work hours to meet operational requirements, while monitoring and controlling overtime hours as necessary
Conduct daily morning meetings with yard employees, lead stretching exercises each morning and review daily and weekly agendas, discuss nursery duties, safety procedures, and any relevant information regarding nursery upkeep
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the tree yard, including tree displays, signage, and customer areas, to create an attractive and inviting shopping environment
Ensure that all equipment used in yard operations, such as forklifts and loaders, are properly maintained and serviced to ensure safe and efficient operation
Lead the unloading of trucks and collaborate with management to determine storage locations for plant material, ensuring accuracy of quantities based on purchase order paperwork and inspecting the quality of nursery material received
Enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for employees and customers, including proper use of equipment, PPE, and adherence to OSHA guidelines
Demonstrated availability to work any day of the week
Other duties and tasks as assigned
Qualification
Required
Ability to perform manual labor
Previous experience in tree nursery management or a related field, with a strong knowledge of trees and horticulture
Ability to follow specific instructions and safety protocols
Preferred
Previous experience with operating power tools, hand tools, and other equipment preferred
High School diploma or equivalent preferred
