Data Scientist- Vision Language Model Researcher, Data & Machine Learning (DML)
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Data Scientist specializing in Vision Language Model research to join a team of data scientists and machine learning engineers. This role involves developing and fine-tuning models on overhead imagery for a high-impact government customer, requiring collaboration across the machine learning development lifecycle.

Responsibilities
Exploring the data and brainstorming and prioritizing ideas for model development
Implementing new features
Training models in support of experimental or performance goals
T&E-ing, packaging, and delivering models
Run data conversion pipelines to transform customer data into the structure needed by models for training
Perform EDA on the customer data
Train VLMs on overhead imagery
Develop and implement hyper-parameter optimization strategies
Test and Evaluate models and analyze results
Package and deliver models to the customer
Implement new features to the code base
Collaborate with the rest of the team on long term strategy and short-medium term implementation
Contribute to presentations to the customer regarding the team’s work
Qualification
Required
3+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience
3+ years of machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques, and parameters that affect their performance experience
Bachelor's degree or above in computer science, machine learning, engineering, or related fields
Current, active US government Security Clearance of TS/SCI
Familiarity with internals of LLMs, VLMs, and traditional Computer Vision object detection models
Ability to implement and modify deep neural networks in PyTorch
Familiarity with techniques and libraries such as Deepspeed/ZeRO, LoRA/QLoRA, or SFT for LLMs
Preferred
Master's degree or above in computer science, machine learning, engineering, or related fields
Knowledge of machine learning concepts and their application to reasoning and problem-solving
Experience working on multi-team, cross-disciplinary projects
Experience with AWS services including S3, Redshift, Sagemaker, EMR, Kinesis, Lambda, and EC2
Experience in Linux, Git workflows, and use of satellite imagery for computer vision requirements
