Healthcare Financial Management Association is seeking a Director of Accounting and Financial Planning and Analysis to provide strategic financial leadership and operational ownership for their accounting and financial functions. Responsibilities

Provide oversight and leadership for the organization’s accounting operations, including month-end and year-end close, reconciliations and financial reporting
Manage and develop the accounting team, including direct oversight of the Accounting Manager, ensuring accountability, professional growth and consistent execution
Ensure accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP, including revenue recognition, deferred revenue and event related accounting
Strengthen internal controls. Accounting policies and procedures, and documentation to support audit readiness and operational excellence
Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors, internal Department Heads, and support the CFO in planning and execution of Organization-wide goals and initiatives
Oversee payroll review and financial controls, including validation of payroll calculations, approvals, reconciliations, and proper accounting treatment, in coordination with Human Resources
Ensure payroll-related journal entries, accruals, benefit allocations, and reconciliations are accurate, timely and compliant with applicable policies and regulations
Lead the annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting processes, ensuring alignment with HFMA’s strategic priorities and financial targets
Develop financial modeling and scenario analysis to support strategic initiatives, including revenue diversification, new product development, pricing strategies and operational efficiency
Provide forward-looking insights on risks, opportunities, and long-term sustainability to the CFO and executive leadership
Support long-term financial planning and resource allocation decisions
Develop and maintain dashboards and reports that provide timely, accurate, and actionable insights to the CFO, CEO, Board, and leadership teams
Analyze trends in membership, events, sponsorship, and non-dues revenue streams to guide decision-making
Prepare variance analyses and highlight operational drivers of performance
Support Board and Committee reporting with clear, concise financial narratives and meeting materials
Serve as the primary financial partner to department heads, providing counsel on budgets, forecasts, and performance against KPIs
Support cross-functional teams with business case development, ROI assessments, resource planning, and investment evaluation
Establish financial models to evaluate pricing, investment, and growth opportunities
Promote financial discipline and data-drive decision making across the Organization
Ensure adherence to GAAP, association accounting standards, and internal controls
Partner with the CFO in preparation for audits, board finance updates, and external reporting
Drive improvements in systems, processes, and policies that strengthen financial stewardship

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field (Master's or CPA preferred)
8–10 years progressive experience in financial planning & analysis, ideally within a nonprofit, association, or mission-driven organization
Demonstrated experience leading accounting operations, including close management, audits and internal controls
Proven expertise in financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis
Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit/association accounting practices
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial leaders and board members
Advanced skills in Excel, NetSuite, Planful, and business intelligence tools
