Responsibilities

Review and process permit applications for residential and commercial construction projects, including but not limited to building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, generator permits
Provide exceptional customer service by assisting applicants in navigating the application process, answering questions, and explaining requirements
Ensure submitted plans and documents meet local building codes and zoning regulations, ensuring compliance
Accurately input and maintain detailed records in the permit management system, tracking permit applications, scope of work, and approvals
Work closely with contractors’ project coordinators to ensure the timely processing of permits and resolution of any issues or concerns
Stay up-to-date with local and state construction and zoning regulations, making recommendations for improvements to procedures when necessary
Issue permits once they are approved, providing applicants with required documentation, and ensuring timely processing
Monitor and follow up on open permit applications, ensuring timely approval or resolution of issues to prevent delays in construction projects

Required

Minimum of 2 years' experience in permit processing, construction, or a related field, preferably in residential and commercial sectors
Knowledge of building codes, zoning laws, permit processes, and construction practices is essential
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and permit management software; ability to learn new software quickly
Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to effectively interact with contractors, city officials, and clients
Ability to accurately review documents and applications for completeness and compliance
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex situations efficiently
