Medical Innovation & Invention Internship (FluidQ)
Callix Research is a medical diagnostics company developing a portable blood-analysis platform. They are seeking a graduate student intern to coordinate the build, iteration, and testing of an early prototype in collaboration with a leading research-university lab.
Responsibilities
Coordinate early prototype workstreams (build, test setup, iteration cycles) and maintain weekly priorities
Maintain milestone plans, parts lists, build notes, and version tracking
Organize meetings, agendas, notes, and follow-ups with the lab team and external collaborators
Support definition of prototype requirements (performance targets, constraints, test criteria)
Help design and document testing workflows (sample handling, imaging runs, repeatability checks, failure modes)
Capture and summarize results (photos, run logs, measurements, issues, “what changed / what we learned”)
Track open questions and bottlenecks; propose practical next steps, owners, and timelines
Optional (as fit/interest allows): support lightweight computational organization (data folders, labeling plans, basic metrics)
Qualification
Required
Current graduate student (biomedical engineering, bioengineering, mechanical/electrical engineering, applied physics, or related)
Strong project coordination skills: reliable, proactive, detail-oriented, good at follow-through
Comfortable working across disciplines (hardware + experimental testing + documentation)
Excellent written communication (clear summaries, action lists, concise documentation)
Preferred
Microfluidics / lab-on-chip
Optical imaging / microscopy
Experimental design and test rigor (repeatability, controls, measurement discipline)
Hematology, blood handling, or clinical lab concepts (CBC/QBC-style readouts, morphology)
Benefits
May also be structured for academic credit or as a volunteer learning experience
