Volunteer Board Member – Finance, Fundraising & Growth Strategy
Join The Climb is a nonprofit organization committed to increasing the representation of women of color in leadership and managerial positions. They are seeking a dedicated financial professional to join their Board of Directors as a Financial Board Member, leading financial oversight and ensuring sustainable growth while advancing their mission.
Non-profit Organization Management
Responsibilities
Chair the Finance Committee and oversee all financial operations
Lead the development and monitoring of annual budgets, ensuring alignment with strategic goals
Review monthly financial statements and present quarterly reports to the full board
Establish and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
Oversee cash flow management and investment strategies
Develop multi-year financial projections that support organizational growth
Analyze financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks
Provide financial modeling for new programs and initiatives
Guide pricing strategies for fee-based services and programs
Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, state requirements, and nonprofit financial best practices
Oversee annual audit processes and work with external auditors
Maintain fiduciary responsibility and uphold ethical financial standards
Monitor and report on restricted funds and grant compliance
Qualification
Required
CPA, CFA, or equivalent financial certification preferred
Experience in finance, accounting, or financial management
Proven experience with nonprofit financial management and governance
Knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, grant management, and compliance requirements
Experience with financial planning, budgeting, and cash flow management
Demonstrated passion for advancing women of color in leadership roles
Understanding of nonprofit sector challenges and opportunities
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles
Previous board experience, particularly with finance committee leadership
Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities
Excellent communication skills with ability to present complex financial information clearly
Experience managing relationships with auditors, banks, and financial service providers
Willingness to commit 8-12 hours per month to board service, including: Monthly Finance Committee meetings (2 hours), Quarterly board meetings (3 hours each), Annual board retreat and strategic planning sessions, Additional time for financial analysis and reporting as needed
