Electrical Engineer - Power Systems
Space Information Laboratories is seeking an Electrical Engineer to develop and validate electrical and electronic systems for aerospace applications. The role involves designing, analyzing, and testing power systems while ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards.

Responsibilities
Write reports; design, lay out, develop, and test electronic systems, components, or Class III printed circuit boards for use within aerospace products and systems
Develop functional specifications, system architecture, detailed designs, schematics, and PCBs (Class III)
Design, analyze, and support power systems, including power distribution, power conditioning, and battery interfaces
Perform power budgeting, load analysis, and efficiency trade studies across mission phases
Develop and validate DC power architectures, including grounding, fault protection, and redundancy strategies
Support lithium-ion battery system integration, including charge/discharge profiles and protection circuitry
Conduct worst-case, derating, and thermal analyses for power electronics and high-reliability aerospace hardware
Support EMI/EMC compliance related to power conversion, switching regulators, and high-current paths
Support assigned electrical engineering efforts across the product lifecycle, from concept development through design, testing, and transition to production
Develop engineering estimates and technical inputs to support project planning and decision-making
Compile and analyze data regarding existing and proposed electrical engineering designs and technical studies
Prepare and maintain engineering specifications, interface control documents, and design artifacts supporting power systems
Write engineering documentation to meet customer and contractual requirements, including Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs)
Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve technical issues and support system integration
Ensure designs and analyses comply with applicable specifications, codes, and customer requirements through engineering review, analysis, and verification activities
Collaborate with the engineering team by sharing technical knowledge, providing informal guidance to junior engineers, and reporting technical progress to management
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the following areas: electrical design, printed circuit board layout and testing, and analysis and interpretation of physical phenomena or engineering data
Proficient in all phases of engineering development (requirements, design, test, and production)
Excellent communication skills to explain technical specifics to peers and customers
Experience using industry-specific tools to analyze and test electronic systems
Ability to write technical documents and procedures
Experience with power electronics, including DC-DC converters, linear regulators, power MOSFETs, and protection circuitry
Experience with spacecraft or aerospace power systems, including battery management systems (BMS)
Familiarity with power integrity analysis, grounding strategies, and high-current PCB layout techniques
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, required
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State
Must be willing to travel to external test labs for quality testing as needed
Must be eligible to obtain a security clearance
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check

Ability to commute to Santa Maria, CA 93455 (Required)

Preferred
Experience with AS9100D Quality Management System policies and procedures
