Intern, R&D Graduate Summer - Advanced Microsystems & Sensor Technologies, Onsite
Sandia National Laboratories is the nation’s premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation, with teams of specialists focused on cutting-edge work in a broad array of areas. They are seeking a Graduate R&D Student Intern to support research, development, and testing of MEMS based Inertial Sensors, contributing to advanced MEMS sensor technologies and national security applications. The intern will join a multidisciplinary team, engaging in design, fabrication, testing, and characterization of MEMS sensors and interface electronics.

Responsibilities
Join an existing team to design, fabricate, package and characterize MEMS sensors and interface electronics for national security applications
Perform testing on MEMS, ASIC and/or co-packaged devices in a lab setting
Assist with code development to acquire and process test data
Process data and present findings at team meetings
Characterize the performance of MEMS sensors and ASICs, as bare die, on PCBs, or in test setups
Qualification
Required
Earned bachelor's degree
Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S
Preferred
Candidates should have an educational background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, preferably at the master's or PhD level
Basic understanding of MEMS or inertial sensors or experience with readout electronics for inertial sensors or MEMS applications
Experience with basic lab tools including but not limited to multimeters, oscilloscopes, waveform generators, amplifiers, data acquisition systems, etc
Experience with programming software, especially MATLAB or similar with an emphasis on data acquisition and post processing as well as instrument control and automation of test setups
Experience with packaging of MEMS devices
Experience with analog ASIC or readout circuit design
Basic understanding of semiconductor fabrication techniques
Experience with software control of lab equipment
Experience with environmental testing of devices, such as shock, vibration and/or radiation environments
Bonus: Experience with testing of electronics, including designing test setups
