Responsibilities

Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws, including multi-state tax registrations, filings, and remittances. Concentra is in 47 states and the District of Columbia with over 20 FEINs
Analyze and reconcile payroll tax data to ensure accuracy and to support periodic and annual tax filings
Assist with W-2 processing
Manage tax notices and correspondence from federal/state/local tax agencies; research, resolve and escalate issues as appropriate
Establish new tax accounts and maintain existing registrations for multi-state employers
Prepare and maintain documentation, standard operating procedures, and audit support files
Support system enhancements, tax automation, and internal process improvement initiatives
Responsible for providing resolutions to employee tax inquiries
Assist in audits with federal, state, and local tax agencies, as well as external independent and internal auditors
Serve as backup for other payroll tax specialist and garnishment specialist, as needed
Assist with special projects, as needed

Required

Bachelor's Degree Major: Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field Degree must be from an accredited college or university
In lieu of higher education, the ratio is 1:1 meaning one year of college equals one year of work experience and vice-versa
Customarily has at least five years of payroll tax experience in a multi-state environment
Strong understanding of U.S. federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance
Excellent communication, research, and problem-solving skills
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management capabilities
Ability to meet strict payroll deadlines
Ability to prioritize without direct supervision required
Outstanding customer service skills as well as the ability to deal with people in a manner which shows tact and professionalism
The ability to properly handle sensitive and confidential information (including HIPAA and PHI) in accordance with federal and state laws and company policies

Ability to make decisions or solve problems by using logic to identify key facts, explore alternatives, and propose quality solutions

Preferred

FPC or CPP certification preferred but not required
Experience with implementation or testing of payroll tax systems is a plus
