USDA-ARS Small Grains Summer Intern
The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education is offering a summer internship with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service. The intern will participate in a barley and oat improvement project, engaging in laboratory, greenhouse, and field research to enhance productivity and quality through various scientific methods.

Responsibilities
Join a barley and oat improvement project, enhancing barley and oat productivity, quality, and stress resistance
Create experimental designs and treatments, collect experimental data, and analyze and interpret results
Hybridize barley and oat plants, evaluate germplasm for phenotypic characteristics, perform DNA extractions and run PCR assays, create and validate molecular genetic markers, and analyze data using various statistical software packages
Attend mentor-approved meetings and workshops
Qualification
Required
Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in one of the relevant fields
U.S. Citizen Only
Preferred
Relevant coursework in Biology
Relevant coursework and knowledge of basic statistics
Experience with molecular biology laboratory research
Willingness to conduct field, greenhouse and laboratory experiments
Strong communication skills for collaborative experimental design and reporting results
