Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, configuration, and implementation of tax technology solutions across SAP (S4 HANA/FI) and Vertex (O Series/Cloud)
Analyze business requirements and translate them into system configuration, functional specifications, and technical designs
Drive tax-related components of ERP enhancements, system upgrades, and new business integrations (e-commerce, POS, supply chain, global expansion)
Partner with IT developers and architects to deliver scalable solutions, ensuring proper integration between SAP, Vertex, retail systems, and downstream reporting tools
Develop and execute test strategies, including unit testing, SIT, UAT, and regression testing for tax configurations and enhancements
Serve as the primary escalation point for tax-related system issues, troubleshooting errors, incorrect tax calculations, data inconsistencies, and integration failures
Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to understand operational challenges and propose effective, compliant tax solutions
Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring tax issues
Provide expert guidance on tax implications of new business models, promotional programs, sourcing changes, and system workflows
Interpret and apply U.S. state/local tax, federal tax, and international indirect tax (VAT/GST) rules within system configurations, working with business Tax and Finance teams
Support the tax compliance team by ensuring accurate tax determination, reporting, and audit readiness across multiple countries and sales channels
Maintain tax master data, jurisdiction codes, rules, and rate updates in SAP and Vertex
Work with Tax, IT, Digital, Finance, Accounting, Procurement, Supply Chain, E-commerce, and Retail Operations to align system solutions with business needs
Act as a key resource on large- and small-scale IT projects, including S/4HANA implementations, system migrations, upgrades, global expansions, and other tax-relevant projects
Provide training and documentation to business end users to promote adoption of new tax processes and tools and help develop Subject Matter Expertise within business and IT teams
Ensure integrity of tax data flows through SAP, Vertex, and downstream systems
Identify opportunities for process automation, reporting improvements, and system-driven controls
Support analytics teams with requirements for tax-related reporting and insights

Required

Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Accounting, Finance, Tax, or related field
7+ years of experience in tax technology, indirect tax, and ERP system implementation roles
Strong hands-on experience with SAP tax configuration and Vertex, including O Series/Cloud, and OpenText
Solid understanding of U.S. indirect tax and international tax practices (VAT/GST)
Experience in the Retail industry, including omni-channel environments and multi-jurisdiction operations
Proven ability to design and implement IT solutions that address complex tax requirements
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
Excellent communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts for business users and tax concepts for technical teams
Ability to manage multiple projects and work in fast-paced, evolving environments
Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and compliance
Collaborative partner with the ability to influence across functions
Strong leadership, team management, and collaboration capabilities
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills

Preferred

CPA, MST, Chartered Accountant, or equivalent certification
Experience with S/4HANA migrations, POS integrations, or global ERP rollouts
Familiarity with middleware, APIs, or integration platforms used for tax engine connectivity
Knowledge of automation tools (Alteryx, Power BI, BTP, etc.)
