Lunar Flight Crew Operations Engineer, Sr

Blue Origin is working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems for the benefit of Earth. The Lunar Flight Crew Operations Engineer will collaborate with design and operations training teams, focusing on spacecraft development and operations to ensure crew safety and effective training for lunar missions.

Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with space vehicle design and operations training teams, representing the interests of current and future flight crews in all aspects of spacecraft development and operations
Participate in vehicle design and operations reviews, providing actionable feedback on Crew Systems and/or Extra-Vehicular Activity (EVA) hardware and software
Work closely with vehicle engineering teams and NASA to develop operations concepts and training for crew operations
Assist in the development of training plans and course materials, as well as delivery of Crew Systems and/or EVA classes
Certify as an instructor and serve as a member of the flight crew instructor cadre
Help guide the development of Blue MCC support for EVA and/or Crew System operations, expecting to certify as a flight controller and/or flight control team instructor and support console operations

Required

B.S. in engineering or related technical field
5+ years of experience in spacecraft crew systems and/or extra-vehicular activity flight operations
Strong systems engineering skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment with minimal supervision
Willingness to travel frequently

Required for Certain Job Profiles: Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) background check if at any time the role requires one to be on a military installation
Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training
Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical

Preferred

Master's or Ph.D. in engineering or related technical field
10+ years of experience in spacecraft crew systems and/or extra-vehicular activity flight operations
Relevant specialized knowledge in crew systems or extra-vehicular activity hardware development, spacecraft systems, space flight operations, human factors, or flight testing
