Assistant/Associate Professor - Engineering Technology - AY 26/27
The California State University is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Engineering Technology Department. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses and support curricular development while engaging in professional development and service activities.

Responsibilities
Instruction of marine and facilities engineering technology coursework in classrooms, laboratories, simulators, or aboard the training ship. Curricula taught may include: + Steam, Diesel, or Turbine Power Generation + Ship Propulsion Simulation + Electrical Systems + HVAC + Refrigeration + Introduction to Marine Engineering + Plant Operations + Other fundamental engineering courses associated with the Engineering Technology program
Student advising in the Marine Engineering Technology and Facilities Engineering Technology programs
Professional development activities that advance knowledge within an engineering field
Service in department and campus-wide academic and administrative teams and committees, and
Future annual participation as an instructional faculty member and/or engineering watch officer aboard the Training Ship Golden Bear (to be the Training Ship Golden State planned for 2028)
Qualification
Required
A minimum earned bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology (marine, mechanical, electrical, naval, or industrial), or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent
A minimum USCG 3rd assistant engineer (unlimited) license with appropriate STCW endorsements and at least 10 years' experience in the industry OR a USCG 2nd assistant engineer (unlimited) license with appropriate STCW endorsements
Demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty
Ability to develop an externally funded, applied research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students, and partnerships with key stakeholders
Demonstrated experience and commitment to hands-on, student-centered learning and teaching
Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching
Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language
A valid USCG medical certificate is required to participate in the training cruise
Participation in a random drug-screening program as required by federal law
Compliance with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) before starting work with Cal Poly
Preferred
Demonstrated excellence in university level teaching and research (commensurate with time since degree)
Experience with laboratory-based instruction
Industry experience
Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment
Master's degree or higher in engineering, engineering technology or engineering management
Current C/E or 1/E or U.S. Coast Guard license with appropriate STCW endorsements
Interests and expertise in more than one technical area
Engineering leadership role experience
