Substation Design Engineer
Louth Callan Renewables is seeking a Substation Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of substation systems. This role involves ensuring compliance with safety standards and technical specifications while creating reliable electrical solutions that power communities and industries.

Responsibilities
Develop detailed electrical system designs for substations using AutoCAD, Revit, and MicroStation, ensuring compliance with NEC standards and client specifications
Create comprehensive schematics and system layouts for high-voltage and low-voltage equipment, integrating components such as circuit breakers, transformers, and control systems
Utilize simulation tools like MATLAB, Simulink, and SystemVerilog to model system performance and validate design integrity before implementation
Conduct root cause analysis on system issues, troubleshooting electrical faults using tools like ohmmeters and signal processing techniques to identify underlying problems
Collaborate with manufacturing teams to oversee PCB design, surface mount technology assembly, and firmware development for control modules utilizing programming languages such as C++, Python, Perl, and scripting environments
Support project scheduling efforts by coordinating design milestones, resource allocation, and ensuring timely delivery of engineering documentation
Engage in mechanical integration tasks using SolidWorks, Revit, and Mechanical engineering principles to ensure seamless enclosure design and surface mount technology compatibility
Qualification
Required
Proven experience in electrical engineering with a focus on substation or power systems design
Hands-on knowledge of electrical systems including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), ARM microcontrollers, and firmware development
Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, and SolidWorks for detailed schematics and mechanical integration
Strong background in signal processing, debugging techniques, surface mount technology (SMT), soldering skills, and vision inspection systems
Experience with project management tools emphasizing project scheduling to meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality standards
Ability to perform root cause analysis efficiently using diagnostic tools like ohmmeters or advanced fault detection methods
Preferred
Mechanical knowledge related to surface mount technology assembly processes and mechanical engineering principles
