Principal Materials and Process Engineer - Welding
Blue Origin is working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems. The Principal Materials and Process Engineer - Welding will support the development and operations of the New Glenn launch vehicle by addressing welding/joining challenges and optimizing materials and processes for various spaceflight systems.

Responsibilities
Perform tasks related to the design, manufacture, and operation of the New Glenn launch system’s 7-Engine and 9-Engine booster programs
Work on welding/joining problems for various spaceflight systems that experience a wide range of environmental and loading conditions
Specify, develop, and qualify joining processes such as laser, electron beam, gas tungsten arc, etc. on development and flight hardware for New Glenn systems
Work closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to optimize materials and processes for new configurations while maintaining on-going support for current parts on the production
Qualification
Required
Minimum of a B.S. degree in Aerospace, Welding, Material Science, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering or related field
8+ Years of demonstrated M&P or Welding Engineering experience
Experience with welded aluminum tank space structures
Extensive experience with AWS D17.1 and D17.3
Shown experience crafting and implementing test plans for analysis and qualification of components or materials such as aluminums, nickel alloys, titanium, stainless steel and other exotic alloys
Demonstrated experience developing new aerospace processes and refining existing ones
In-depth knowledge of aerospace-grade materials characterization and NDI techniques
Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis
Experience organizing and managing materials and process-related data in a company accessible database
Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle small and large projects with a variety of internal and external customers
Strong written and personal digital literacy
Knowledgeable in Aluminum, Titanium, corrosion, fusion welding or metallic materials
Preferred
Certified Weld Inspector, extensive NDI process knowledge
Experience using 2219, 2XXX, 6XXX, and 8XXX series aluminums
Experience qualifying both fusion welded and friction stir welded structures
Broad materials & processes support for metallic (e.g. forging, casting, forming, extrusion, plating, coating, brazing, anodization, passivation) hardware
Familiarity with standard methods for testing mechanical properties (including fatigue, fracture, creep, stress rupture) of metallic and soft materials
Demonstrated experience (M&P signatory authority) on a flight production program
Hands-on machining/welding experience (FSW preferred, TIG/GTA acceptable)
Experience with launch vehicle, aircraft, or spacecraft manufacturing and integration
Familiarity with common NDT methods, including visual, dye penetrant, ultrasound, x-ray, CT scan, Eddy Current, XRF scan
Review NDT results from processed hardware and disposition nonconformance's
