Environmental Engineer Sr - ASL

Ahtna, Inc. is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to lead investigations and remediation projects at contaminated sites regulated under CERCLA in California/Nevada/Arizona/Oregon/Utah. The role involves developing and implementing work plans, overseeing field programs, and interpreting complex environmental data to support risk management and remedy selection.

Responsibilities

Manage the completion of assigned tasks, including plan preparation, field staffing, subcontractor oversight, logistics, budget, invoicing, data acquisition, reporting, and close-out
Develop and implement RI/FS, removal action, and remedial action work plans
Develop conceptual site models, design monitoring networks, and prepare sampling and analysis plans
Collect and interpret field data, review earth science data, synthesize and organize data as project objectives dictate, and manage or prepare the project deliverables
Conduct statistical analyses of monitoring data sets, including non-parametric trend testing (e.g., Mann-Kendall), regression, and time-series analysis, and other appropriate techniques to evaluate temporal and spatial trends
Support multiple projects, including consultation, plan or report preparation, and/or travel and fieldwork
Travel in aircraft (jets, small planes, and helicopters), motor vehicles, ATVs, and/or watercraft to perform fieldwork, site visits, or meetings
Prepare or assist with the preparation of plans, including project work plans, health and safety plans, field reports, and project reports
Evaluate remedial and restoration alternatives
Update job knowledge by reading historical documentation, publications, and other information related explicitly to applicable disciplines
Enhance company and organization reputation by accepting ownership for the team performance and adding value to assigned tasks
Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation
Review and document the processes necessary to obtain environmental permits, licenses, and other requirements necessary to achieve environmental restoration project objectives
Review and provide documentation of environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements
Meet all safety responsibilities and goals
Understanding best management practices as they relate to environmental investigations
Implement process improvement and tracking and reporting on changes to scope and schedule
Perform other duties as assigned by management
Provide client assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on projects
Maintain 2-3 areas of technical expertise
Lead technical project execution and document preparation, senior review project documents
Prepare task orders and project proposals
Project staffing and technical mentoring
Up to 25% of the time may be spent conducting fieldwork, potentially in remote locations

Qualification

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, with a preference for civil, environmental, chemical, or geotechnical
US Citizenship
Ability to pass background checks by various Federal Agencies (e.g., DOD, DHS, FAA, ) to obtain security access badges
Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record, able to drive a company vehicle
Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and databases such as Access and PowerPoint
Adept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to internal and external clients verbally and in writing
Eight (8) or more years of relevant working experience, specialized training, and/or an advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience
Professional Engineer Registration

Preferred

Proficiency in other programs such as Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, GIS, databases, and environmental modeling programs
Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER
CPR/1st Aid Certified
Experience working on projects with Federal clients
Experience working on projects valued at >$1M
Experience working on biologically sensitive project locations
Ability to obtain California QSP and/or QSD certification within first year of employment
Project management experience
Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures
