Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering
Western Washington University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering to support the growth of their Engineering & Design Department. The role involves teaching, developing curriculum, and maintaining a research program focused on advanced composites, while fostering an inclusive environment for students and faculty.
Responsibilities
Teach five classes per year
Supervise hands-on teaching and research laboratory activities and safety practices
Establish an active and sustained research program involving undergraduate students
Seek funding to support and sustain research and academic programs
Advise senior design/capstone projects in the PME/MSE program
Participate in departmental, university, and professional service, including ABET accreditation requirements
Contribute to a collaborative, safe, and engaging learning and working environment
Qualification
Required
Ph.D. in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field
Strong commitment to teaching and scholarship
Teaching and research interests in fields relevant to advanced composites
Expertise in structures, materials design and development, manufacturing, and/or simulation or modeling
Ability to teach courses in the PME/MSE program and contribute to teaching premajor classes and/or new courses for the Mechanical Engineering minor
Experience in developing and maintaining a relevant research program
Ability to involve undergraduate researchers and establish partnerships with industry
Commitment to providing equitable and inclusive environments for all students, faculty, and staff
Ability to supervise hands-on teaching and research laboratory activities and safety practices
Experience in seeking funding to support and sustain research and academic programs
Ability to advise senior design/capstone projects in the PME/MSE program
Participation in departmental, university, and professional service, including ABET accreditation requirements
