Mechanical Designer

HTI is seeking a Mechanical Designer to support industrial pipe fabrication operations by producing accurate, fabrication-ready pipe spool drawings. The role involves collaborating with project management, estimating, quality, and shop teams to translate various documents into detailed spool drawings, ensuring safe and efficient fabrication.

Responsibilities

Develop detailed pipe spool drawings and fabrication packages from 3D models, isometrics, orthographic drawings, and contract documents
Use Navisworks to navigate models and extract spools by system
Produce and revise 2D fabrication drawings using Spoolfab
Generate spool sheets with weld symbols, material callouts, dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication notes
Coordinate with project managers, estimators, and shop supervision to align drawings with schedule, priorities, fabrication sequence, and installation strategy
Incorporate field conditions, RFIs, and redlines into revised drawings
Support quality control by ensuring drawings comply with applicable codes, specifications, and internal standards
Maintain organized drawing files and revision control per project procedures
Participate in constructability reviews and prefabrication planning
Assist with model-based takeoffs and material tracking as needed

Required

3+ years of experience as a Mechanical Designer or Detailer in industrial piping, pipe fabrication, or structural fabrication
Hands-on experience using Navisworks for model navigation, extraction, and coordination
Proficiency with AutoCAD for 2D drafting
Strong understanding of pipe spool fabrication practices, including welding, fit-up, and shop workflows
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, specifications, and project documents
Working knowledge of piping materials, fittings, valves, and supports
High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and constructability
Strong communication skills and ability to perform in a fast-paced, project-driven environment

Preferred

Experience with Spoolfab for spool management and fabrication workflows
Experience using Tekla Structures, particularly for coordination with structural steel or modular assemblies
Familiarity with ASME piping codes (B31.1, B31.3)
Experience supporting modular or prefabricated piping assemblies
Exposure to ERP or digital production tracking systems
