Responsibilities
Lead the design of HVAC and mechanical systems, including:
Air handling systems (VAV, DOAS, FCU, AHU)
Chilled water, hot water, steam, and condenser water systems
Central plant design (chillers, boilers, cooling towers)
Exhaust, smoke control, stair pressurization, and specialty systems
Perform and oversee engineering calculations, including load calculations, equipment sizing, and coordination of energy modeling
Develop basis of design narratives, system schematics, and technical specifications
Ensure compliance with NYC Building Code, NYCECC, ASHRAE, NFPA, and local utility requirements
Serve as Mechanical Engineer of Record or lead mechanical engineer on assigned projects
Manage mechanical discipline scope, schedules, and budgets
Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, fire protection, architectural, and structural teams
Lead meetings with clients, architects, and ownership representatives
Review consultant and vendor submittals for technical compliance
Provide construction-phase support, including:
Shop drawing and submittal review
RFI responses
Site visits and field observations
Punch lists and project closeout
Resolve field issues in collaboration with contractors while maintaining design intent
Support commissioning activities and respond to commissioning feedback
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers
Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings, calculations, and specifications
Contribute to internal standards, best practices, and process improvements
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
8–12+ years of experience in MEP consulting engineering
Professional Engineer (PE) license required (NY preferred or ability to obtain)
Strong knowledge of NYC codes and AHJ processes
Experience leading mechanical design for large-scale, complex projects
Proficiency in Revit MEP, AutoCAD, and HVAC design tools
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
High-rise commercial or residential projects
Healthcare, laboratory, or mission-critical facilities
Energy-efficient and sustainable design (LEED, Local Law 97 familiarity a plus)
Coordination with commissioning agents and specialty consultants
