Swimming Pool Custodian - BC-05

Responsibilities
Operates swimming pool filtering and chlorinating equipment in accordance with established procedures and instructions
Performs simple color tests to determine chlorine residual and degree of alkalinity or acidity of water
Removes suspended impurities present in filters by backwashing filters
Operates water vacuum cleaner to clean bottom of pool
Swims and dives to remove algae from bottom and sides of pool
Cleans and maintains pool apron, locker rooms, chlorinating and filtering rooms
Performs minor electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs
Cleans, trims, waters, and otherwise maintains ground areas around pool facility
Requests materials and repairs when needed
Qualification
Required
Completion of the eighth grade
Some experience in custodial, groundskeeping and/or simple maintenance work, including the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment
Must be able to swim 25 yards and surface dive to the depth of swimming pool
Recognize signs of mechanical wear in pump and filtration equipment and make minor repairs thereto
Make simple repairs to plumbing, electrical, and wooden fixtures and apparatus
Lift various pool and chlorinating equipment
Swim as required to hand brush bottom of pool
Make prescribed colorometric tests of water for determining alkalinity-acidity balance
Read and interpret gauges
Understand and follow oral and written instructions
Meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations
