The Laboratory Engineering Technician In Training will perform field and laboratory testing, observe and inspect construction materials, and communicate project requirements and testing results.

Responsibilities

Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt)
Position may also include driving to various designated locations to retrieve construction materials such as soil and concrete samples and transporting samples and corresponding documentation to our laboratory for additional testing and analysis
Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, and others as applicable regarding the project requirements and testing results
Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observation in the form of written and digital reports as work is performed for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager
Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles and work areas
Adhere to strict safety standards
Ensure proper handling and storage of samples to maintain integrity and prevent damage
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
Safely operate company vehicles to designated locations for sample collection
Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate sample collection schedules and any changes or issues encountered during the process
Under general supervision of higher level technicians or staff professionals, learn with tasks and perform basic testing and observations duties
Provides clear documentation of findings and results
Submits documentation and communicates results as directed by the Project Manager
Prioritize safety while using and maintaining assigned equipment
Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects
Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work
Report any safety issues or concerns to management
Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history
Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and frequent weekends as required
Ability to lift and carry samples containers weighing up to 60 pounds
Comfortable working in various weather conditions
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
