Laboratory Technician I

Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, and prepares for the day’s work autonomously and in collaboration with team members to determine best methods to accomplish daily goals
Prepares media (e.g., pumps) and reagents to support Laboratory testing functions (e.g., labels glassware, moves glassware)
Maintains, cleans, and sterilizes Laboratory materials, equipment, supplies, and general working area (e.g., washes dishes to remove fine powders) while maintaining a safe work environment
Assists in the operation of the steam sterilizer and maintains traceability
Compiles, records and maintains data in specified forms (paper and electronic) such as specification sheets, sterilization records, Microsoft Excel logs to track information, and label generation using computers and basic machines
Assists with basic Laboratory testing functions as directed. This may include preparation, set-up and clean-up activities
Contributes in a team effort by performing in accordance to all STERIS policies, GMP, Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher-level management and performs other duties as assigned
This position may require the use of equipment and / or power tools, as applicable
This position may require the incumbent to obtain their boilers license, as applicable

Required

High school Diploma or GED
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to perform basic computer tasks using Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work effectively
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including fractions and decimals
Commitment to following safety protocols and identifying potential hazards
Effective time‑management skills
Ability to lift up to 25lb

Ability to read and comprehend rules, schedules, procedures, and instructions
Ability to comprehend oral information
