CEO-President / Executive Director

The Bryan County Chamber of Commerce is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual for the position of Executive Director. The successful candidate will serve as the chief executive and strategic leader, responsible for advancing the organization’s mission and managing operational and financial affairs while driving membership and community engagement.

Responsibilities

Serve as the chief strategist for the Chamber, developing and executing a forward-looking program of work aligned with Board priorities
Identify opportunities for growth, innovation, partnerships, and enhanced member engagement
Advise and support the Board of Directors with timely information, strategic insights, and actionable recommendations
Ensure the Chamber remains relevant, responsive, and impactful in a fast-growing and quickly changing business and economic environment
Work closely with the Board of Directors, Executive Board, Ambassador Council and other committees to ensure strong governance and accountability
Implement board-approved policies, bylaws, and the annual Program of Work
Work w/ the Board to develop and implement a Strategic Plan
Serve as the primary liaison between the Board and staff
Lead membership recruitment, retention, and engagement strategies to grow revenue and strengthen value
Ensure delivery of meaningful benefits, programs, events, and communications for members at all levels
Build strong relationships with key investors, sponsors, and major employers
Serve as a visible and accessible leader to members and stakeholders
Represent the interests of the business community at the local, regional, and state levels
Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and partner organizations
Lead public policy initiatives, legislative events, and advocacy efforts aligned with Board-approved positions
Serve as a trusted, non-partisan voice for business
Serve as chief financial officer of the organization, overseeing budgeting, financial planning, and fiscal controls
In coordination with the Treasurer, Board Chair and finance committee prepare an annual operating budget and maintain chamber expenditures within the budgetary limitations
Ensure long-term financial sustainability through diversified revenue streams including membership, sponsorships, events, and programs
Monitor financial performance and provide transparent reporting to the Board each month
Oversee contracts
Audits, and risk management
Lead, mentor, and manage Chamber staff, fostering a positive, professional, and high-performing culture
Oversee hiring, performance management, professional development, and succession planning
Ensure efficient day-to-day operations, systems, and procedures
Promote teamwork, accountability, and innovation across the organization
Serve as the primary ambassador and spokesperson for the Chamber
Build strong relationships with both the City of Pembroke, City of Richmond Hill, Bryan County, the Development Authority of Bryan County, Bryan County Schools, economic development partners, businesses, and community leaders
Represent the Chamber at public events, meetings, and community initiatives
Enhance the Chamber’s brand, visibility, and reputation

Required

Bachelor's degree or higher
Minimum of 5 years of senior leadership experience (chamber of commerce, nonprofit, economic development organization, or related field preferred)
Proven experience in strategic planning, financial management, and organizational leadership
Strong understanding of membership-based organizations and revenue development
Exceptional communication, relationship-building, public speaking, and presentation skills
Effective at written communications
Outstanding time management skills
Strong ability to foster teamwork and collaboration between Board members, staff, members, community leaders and regional chambers
Strong executive and supervisory skills, including ability to plan, organize, lead, delegate, and monitor
Ability to work a wide and flexible range of business hours
Ability and willingness to fundraise for all events and programs
Ability to manage a budget, analyze organization performance, and project financial performance
Proficient user knowledge of computer operation and systems, specifically including MS Office products

Preferred

Certified Chamber Executive (CCE) or Institute for Organization Management (IOM) credentials
Experience working with boards, elected officials, and diverse stakeholders
Knowledge of local and regional economic development issues
Track record of innovation, growth, and community impact
