Executive Director

Bridges to Housing Stability, Inc. is a nonprofit organization based in Howard County, MD, dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness through affordable housing solutions. The Executive Director will provide leadership and direction for the organization, overseeing staff and ensuring the accomplishment of its mission and strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

Ensure the organization’s financial health through strong fiscal oversight, meeting or exceeding established financial goals, and maintaining practices that support long-term sustainability
Lead the development of the annual operating budget in collaboration with key staff and the Executive Committee, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and programmatic goals
Monitor financial performance throughout the year; authorize expenditures within the Board-approved budget; and provide timely, accurate updates to the Finance Committee on budget trends, risks, and opportunities
Oversee all financial compliance activities by working closely with the accountant and auditors to ensure accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and best practices
Strengthen financial systems, policies, and procedures to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability across the organization
Work with the Board to set a compelling organizational vision and develop effective, diversified fundraising strategies to achieve it
Supervise and collaborate with Fundraising staff helping to cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors, funders, and key partners
Ensure all grant submissions, reporting, and grants management processes are timely, accurate, compliant, and aligned with funder requirements
Maintain strong, strategic relationships with funders, faith-based organizations, other nonprofits, government agencies, corporate partners, and local leaders and advocates
Support and motivate the Board’s participation in fundraising, ensuring members have the tools, confidence, and clarity needed to contribute effectively
Oversee marketing, communications, and storytelling to strengthen the organization’s visibility and inspire community and donor engagement
Collaborate with finance to align fundraising goals with budget needs, monitor revenue pipelines, and forecast funding requirements
Identify and pursue new fundraising opportunities and strategic partnerships to expand the organization’s impact and financial sustainability
Serve as Bridges’ chief advocate and ambassador, working with the Board & staff to strengthen public and private support for the mission
Serve on the Howard County Coalition to End Homelessness Board, and the Howard County Board to Promote Self-Sufficiency
Build strategic partnerships and collaborations that advance affordable housing and influence local policy
Provide leadership for effective program delivery and ensure strong internal communication, staff support, and accountability
Oversee progress on the strategic plan and uphold organizational policies that promote respect, professionalism, confidentiality, and compassion
Participate in essential training, community events, and occasional weekend activities to enhance visibility and engagement
Supervise four leadership staff
Mentor and provide professional development for staff to increase their breadth and depth of skills and experience
Lead Human Resources decision-making

Required

Deep passion for Bridges' mission and core values
Master's degree in a related field, or equivalent experience
At least five years of successful executive or senior leadership experience in human services or a closely related field
Strong financial and business management skills, including budgeting, meeting financial goals, and ensuring accurate reporting and compliance
Demonstrated success in grant writing, securing grant awards, and managing grant reporting requirements
Solid understanding of affordable housing, homelessness, and the needs of low-income or unhoused populations
Experience building and managing partnerships with government agencies, community organizations, corporate sponsors, and other key stakeholders
Experience overseeing program evaluation and outcomes measurement
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong overall technology skills
Proven ability to effectively engage and collaborate with a nonprofit Board of Directors
Demonstrated success in fundraising from individuals, businesses, foundations, and government funders
Strong track record of developing, mentoring, and leading staff to high performance in a collaborative environment
Commitment to using data for measuring impact and improving organizational learning
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High emotional intelligence, strong interpersonal skills, and managerial courage
Proven ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural, religious, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds
