Building Technology Systems Intern - Summer 2026
WSP USA is seeking a full-time Building Technology Systems Intern for the Summer of 2026 in their Houston, TX office. The internship offers students hands-on experience in building technology systems, including data analysis, research, and providing technical assistance on design and installation issues.

Responsibilities
Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and installation
Assist with performing basic professional building technology work relating to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, layout, usage, and systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and installation or operating permits
Performs routine building technology functions and provides entry-level technical assistance on various design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications
Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site and providing basic technical assistance on various design, installation, and integration issues relating to creating state-of-the-art smart buildings using a converged network approach, AV/telecommunications, and intelligent systems that make predictive and automated decisions that impact building capabilities, safety, and security
Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications using electronic systems, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports
Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, studies and surveys, and construction
Complete training on assigned tasks
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Qualification
Required
Actively enrolled in an accredited Building Technology Systems, Electronics Engineering, Network Engineering, Network Architecture, Drafting or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
Must be 18 or older
Demonstrated interest in Building Technology Systems or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
Excellent research skills with analytical mindset
Familiarity with process and concepts for smart building design and technology
Familiarity with relevant installation and/or construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience
Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., Revit, AutoCAD, CAM)
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship
Preferred
Design experience related to audiovisual, electronic security or structured cabling
Experience with Revit
Prior internship experience in related fields
