Consumer Loan Underwriter III

Responsibilities
Responsible for reviewing and underwriting all consumer loans generated through both the direct, remote, and indirect consumer loan underwriting channels
Responsible for following established procedures, policies and guidelines for underwriting, verifying, and quality control
Works closely with loan origination staff, members, and dealerships when required
Ensures that such lending operations are in accordance with established policies, procedures, and legal requirements resulting in appropriate profit, and minimum delinquency ratios
Ensures that areas of responsibility support Credit Union Mission, Vision, Strategic Objectives and Service Standards
Ensures that services are delivered professionally and efficiently
Supports and provide exceptional internal and external member service
Assumes responsibility for the implementation policies, procedures, and guidelines
Assists the VP of Consumer Loans in developing short and long-term efficiencies for the Consumer Underwriting Department by providing suggestions and recommendations
Applies proper risk management, fair lending, and regulatory compliance to meet consistent KFCU credit policy for all credit decisions
Assists with conducting periodic reviews of existing systems and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and legal compliance
Executes established operational goals and ensures that corporate-wide objectives are complemented and supported
Assumes responsibility for the effective and efficient completion of Consumer Loan functions
Maintain awareness of KFCU policy by reading and evaluating guideline updates, policy changes and product changes
Ensure that lending functions are completed in accordance with established policies and procedures and related legal requirements
Maintain relationship with loan sales staff to obtain information, present data or explain policy or procedures
Thus, serving as a resource on underwriting questions
Underwrite complex direct consumer loans and indirect auto loan requests
Analyze applicant’s credit data, financial status, or financial statements to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit
Assumes responsibility for ensuring that professional business relations exist with members, vendors, and trade professionals
Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication, coordination, and working relations with Credit Union personnel and with management
Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned
Qualification
Required
Minimum 2 years previous lending/underwriting experience within a financial institution or related field
Proficient knowledge of consumer lending policies, procedures, laws and regulations
Proficient with retail installment contracts
Strong analytical skills with the ability to calculate lending ratios, conduct loan risk analysis and properly identify credit issues, fraud and/or other associated lending risks
Strong analytical skills with the ability to offer viable and creative loan alternatives while staying within credit union risk tolerance
Experience with finance computations, lending calculators and general consumer loan applications
Comprehensive understanding of loan contracts including APR, amortization schedules, and simple interest calculations
Ability to balance productivity and speed to meet service levels with quality underwriting to protect the credit union from undue risk
Strong interpersonal skills (oral and written communications, active listening, positive attitude)
Ability to function in a team environment as a proven team player
Strong in PC proficiency including Word, Excel, Outlook, with the ability to learn new software programs as required
Preferred
Bachelor's degree
Over 2 years of underwriting experience
Proficient understanding of government regulations and legal requirements involving consumer lending and related functions
Knowledgeable in credit union lending policy and lending regulations including Reg B, Reg Z, Fair Lending, and Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA)
