Project Engineer - The Woodlands, TX

The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and supporting capital and sustaining projects across mining, processing, and material handling operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Responsibilities
Manage assigned capital and sustaining projects from scope development through commissioning and closeout
Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and engineering deliverables
Review and approve drawings, specifications, calculations, and vendor submittals
Support equipment selection for crushers, screens, conveyors, dryers, classifiers, and material handling systems
Ensure designs align with operational needs, maintainability, and lifecycle cost objectives
Support construction planning, contractor selection, and site execution
Monitor contractor performance for safety, quality, schedule, and cost control
Participate in field inspections, punch lists, and acceptance testing
Lead or support system commissioning and handover to operations
Ensure projects comply with MSHA, OSHA, environmental permits, and company safety standards
Participate in hazard analyses and risk mitigation activities
Promote a strong safety culture during design and construction
Track project budgets, change orders, and forecasts
Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
Provide regular project status updates to management
Work closely with plant operations and maintenance teams to minimize downtime
Identify opportunities for process improvement, debottlenecking, and reliability enhancements
Support continuous improvement initiatives and standardization efforts across sites
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related discipline
3–7 years of engineering or project experience in mining, aggregates, industrial minerals, cement, or heavy industrial environments
Hands-on experience with plant-based projects and field execution preferred
Demonstrated success in leading maintenance excellence or reliability improvement initiatives
Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, RCM, fleet management best practices, and MSHA regulatory compliance
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
Strong leadership, communication, and team-building abilities
Knowledge of bulk material handling systems and industrial processing equipment
Familiarity with project management principles and capital project workflows
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, layout drawings, and electrical schematics
Proficiency with engineering and project tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Project, Excel)
Strong communication and coordination skills
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Willingness to travel to mine and plant sites as required
Ability to work in industrial field environments
Preferred
Experience with silica sand processing, drying, screening, and rail or truck load-out systems
Experience working in MSHA-regulated facilities
