R&D Engineer 2
NuScale Power is focused on the development of new process steam pressure and heat-augmentation systems for industrial applications. The R&D Engineer 2 will be responsible for defining requirements and specifications for steam compressors and heaters, performing engineering evaluations, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to innovate in the field of turbomachinery and compression systems.

Responsibilities
Defines requirements and specifications of steam compressors, heaters, heat exchangers and interfaces to deliver high pressure high-temperature steam to industrial users
Perform and check engineering evaluations in accordance with NuScale company procedures, by applying sound engineering structural mechanics fundamentals, including familiarity with industry standard analysis software (e.g. Mathcad, ANSYS)
Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolutions of technical problems. Interacts with external vendors and subcontractors of specialized equipment. Interested in innovating and acquiring general knowledge related to fields in other function on multi-disciplinary teams
Performs thermodynamic analysis of steam systems using modeling and simulation tools
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
A minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Systems Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
A minimum of 2 years of experience in turbomachinery or steam and heat distribution system design or operation in the petrochemical and chemical industries
Knowledge of compression systems is required
Good organization skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases is required
Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers
Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend and understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
The employee frequently is required; to sit and stand; walk; bend, use hands to operate office equipment; and reach with hands and arms
Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation
Preferred
Basic understanding of nuclear power generation is preferred
Emphasis in turbomachinery and steam systems analysis
Preferred experience includes: Centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, hot gas expanders, aerodynamic flow-path analysis
Heat Exchanger Design, Steam Valves, Safety System
System Integration, Mechanical Actuators, Valves, Control Systems, Safety Systems and Instrumentation
Proficient use of Thermodynamic Modeling and Simulation Tools: DWSIM, MATLAB, Mathcad, FEA desirable
Experience preparing test procedures, and defining operating limits
Experience supporting cross-functional teams including diverse engineering disciplines, operations, maintenance, planning, etc
Participation with industry standards associations or working groups
Demonstrated understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1 preferred
