Responsibilities
Provide diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, and care management for acute and chronic conditions (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia) across various settings, including mental health, geriatrics, and gynecology
Conduct annual physicals, screenings, and vaccinations to maintain patient health and prevent disease
Treat common illnesses and minor injuries such as colds, flu, rashes, and sprains
Provide counseling and patient education on nutrition, weight management, and healthy lifestyle choices
Initiate referrals for specialists, social work, and homeless veteran programs
Consult with referring physicians to ensure appropriate clinical work-ups
Prescribe and manage medications according to established policies
Maintain timely and accurate medical records in the VA Electronic Health Record (CPRS/EHR) system
Communicate test results to patients in a timely manner
Participate in continuous quality improvement meetings and activities
Provide follow-up instructions coordinated with the next care setting
Qualification
Required
Must hold a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine (MD/DO) in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia
Must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine (ABIM) or Family Medicine (ABFM)
Basic Life Support (BLS) required (AHA or equivalent)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
Must possess a current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration and a National Provider Identifier (NPI)
Must comply with all provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act; E-Verify compliance required
Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is required (VA uses VISTA/CPRS)
