The US Army Corps of Engineers is seeking a Natural Resource Specialist (Park Ranger) for the Mississippi Valley Division. The role involves managing natural and cultural resources, supporting recreation programs, ensuring public safety, and conducting outreach and education efforts.

Responsibilities
Contribute to the development of management plans by helping determine resource needs for assigned projects
Carry out on-the-ground tasks for the conservation, preservation, and restoration of natural and cultural resources, working with state and federal wildlife agencies as needed
Support the project’s recreation program by inspecting facilities, contributing to plans for facility improvements, reviewing service contract specifications, and assisting seasonal staff with daily operations
Patrol project lands and waters to protect resources and ensure public safety
Educate visitors, enforce federal regulations (Title 36 CFR), investigate violations, issue citations, and perform search and rescue operations
Provide project information to local, state, and federal agencies, as well as the visiting public
Conduct public outreach by developing and presenting interpretive programs and engaging with community groups to promote environmental stewardship
Perform boundary surveillance to identify and address encroachments or trespass
Assist with the quality review of real estate actions affecting project lands and help maintain boundary lines and signage
Assist in implementing the project’s Shoreline Management Plan
Review shoreline permits to ensure regulatory requirements are met and communicate with adjacent property owners about shoreline use
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree (or higher) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a related discipline appropriate for the position
A combination of relevant college-level coursework (equivalent to a major as described in Option A) plus appropriate professional experience or additional education
One year of specialized experience at the GS-05 level (such as patrolling project lands or assisting in resource protection programs); one full year of graduate-level education in a relevant field; Superior Academic Achievement based on class standing, GPA, or honor society membership; or a combination of qualifying experience and education
One year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level (such as helping develop resource management plans or implementing conservation programs); a master's degree or two years of progressively higher-level graduate education in a relevant field; or a combination of qualifying experience and graduate education
All positions require the applicant to be a citizen of the United States
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, are required to register for Selective Service prior to appointment
A trial or probationary period may be required
A supervisory probationary period may be required
Direct deposit of pay is required
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time
This position requires that the incumbent possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possession to operate vehicles
Appointment may be subject to a completed background investigation
This position requires a pre-employment physical
Physical Effort. You will be required to lift or carry heavy items. Much of the work is conducted outdoors. Walking and climbing through dense vegetative growth or over steep terrain may be required. Also, it involves working in extreme weather conditions
Depending on mission duties, the employee may be required to obtain and/or maintain a required Corps of Engineers license for the operation of a motorboat less than 26 feet (Class A under 16 ft. and/ or Class 1 under 26 ft. boat operator license)
May be required to work uncommon hours such as nights, weekends, and holidays
Position requires employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing
