Principal Software V&V Engineer (Surgical Robotics)

TalentDome Staffing is seeking a Principal Software V&V Engineer for a high-growth surgical robotics company that is developing an AI-driven, image-guided platform for ophthalmology. This role involves owning the medical device software quality assurance and verification/validation lifecycle while leading a team and ensuring compliance with medical standards.

Responsibilities

Strategic Test Planning: Plan, execute, and report on the entire software testing lifecycle in strict adherence to medical standards (IEC\ 62304, ISO\ 13485, ISO\ 14971)
Technical Leadership: Lead the software testing effort while collaborating deeply with Software, Hardware, and Systems R&D teams
Documentation & Compliance: Own the production of all medical software quality assurance deliverables for every development checkpoint and regulatory submission
Defect Management: Manage the Defect Review Board (DRB), ensuring all issues are tracked, reviewed, and resolved accurately
Automation Strategy: Lead the initiative to transform manual test cases and procedures into a robust, automated testing framework
Team Growth: Hire, mentor, and manage a team of engineers and technicians as the department scales

Required

8+ years of dedicated experience in medical software quality assurance and V&V
Strong technical understanding of the software-hardware interface, ideally within a robotics or complex medical device environment
Master-level understanding of IEC 62304 (Software Lifecycle), ISO 13485 (QMS), and ISO 14971 (Risk Management)
Proven track record of delivering all SW QA documentation across at least one full product development cycle—from initial product definition to post-market release
Experience with Linux-based systems and C/C++ environments
Must be able to work 100% on-site in Santa Monica or Malibu due to the requirement for direct hardware access

Preferred

Knowledge of QT and DDS (Data Distribution Service) is highly desirable
