Research Associate

Vandstrom is a company focused on membrane research and development, and they are seeking a Research Associate to join their team. The role involves fabricating and evaluating polymeric and biomimetic membranes while collaborating closely with Scientists and Laboratory Technicians to develop novel filtration membranes.

Responsibilities

Design and conduct experiments focused on modifying and coating membrane surfaces, aiming to achieve optimal performance for different separation applications
Process and document test results and progress in a timely manner
Conduct membrane performance evaluations and implement quality control measures in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Maintain inventory of chemicals, consumables, and membrane samples
Analyze experimental data, compile findings into reports, and present conclusions to team members
Utilize membrane characterization techniques and analyze resulting data to evaluate membranes' pore structure and surface properties
Collaborate with other R&D groups to conduct research on biomimetic membranes
Investigate novel methods for membrane evaluation, create standard operating procedures (SOPs) accordingly, and provide training to others as necessary
Adhere to good documentation practices by keeping accurate and thorough records of data forms, protocols, reports, and electronic laboratory notebooks
Perform general maintenance and upkeep of laboratory facilities and equipment

Required

Minimum bachelor's degree in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or related fields and a minimum of two years of work experience, preferably in an industrial research laboratory
Knowledge of membrane and/or surface coating chemistry, membrane, and/or thin film fabrication techniques
Ability to wear PPEs for most of the day
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
Eligible to work in the U.S

Preferred

Familiar with membrane separation processes
Experience with analytical techniques such as FTIR, DLS, HPLC, UV-vis, Goniometer, and viscometer preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Effective communicator in both verbal and written form
Possess an inherent curiosity and enthusiasm toward emerging technologies and scientific advancements
Proficient in written and verbal communication and can convey ideas and thoughts effectively through both mediums
Demonstrate diligence and keen attention to detail, ensuring efficient laboratory operations while adhering to good laboratory practices
Capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment and adept at multitasking
Ability to work independently while maintaining a high standard of quality in their work
