HIL Validation Engineer
ALTEN Technology USA is an engineering company that provides solutions for engineering, technology, and product development projects. They are seeking a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Validation Engineer to support verification and validation of embedded software and vehicle functions across various vehicle platforms, focusing on HIL testing and automation.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and execute HIL test cases based on Vehicle Function (VF), system, and software requirements
Translate VF and system requirements into traceable, automated HIL test scenarios
Build, configure, and maintain HIL test benches using:
NI LabVIEW, NI TestStand, NI VeriStand
DSPACE (SCALEXIO, ControlDesk, AutomationDesk) and OPAL-RT
Perform functional, integration, regression, diagnostics, and fault-injection testing
Validate ECUs including:
BMS, Inverters, Engine Controllers, Transmission Controllers, BCMs, and Power Generation Controllers
Support BEV, HEV, PHEV, REPB, and ICE vehicle architectures
Execute software flashing, update validation, and rollback testing
Analyze DTC behavior, fault responses, and system degradations
Support functional safety objectives (ISO 26262), emissions compliance, and drivability targets
Integrate plant and environment models using MATLAB/Simulink and Stateflow for closed-loop validation
Execute automotive communication testing using CAN, LIN, and J1939 with Vector tools (CANoe, CANalyzer)
Collaborate with development and calibration teams on root-cause analysis and defect resolution
Maintain test artifacts including HIL test reports, Software Validation Reports (SVR), and release documentation
Support software release readiness and validation sign-off
Qualification
Required
1–2+ years of hands-on experience with NI LabVIEW
1–2+ years of hands-on experience with NI TestStand
1–2+ years of hands-on experience with NI VeriStand
Strong understanding of Vehicle Function (VF) and system requirements
Proven experience generating test cases from VF/system requirements
Hands-on experience with HIL test benches and real-time simulation
Working knowledge of BEV, HEV, PHEV, REPB, and ICE vehicle architectures
Demonstrated experience with fault injection
Demonstrated experience with software update validation
Demonstrated experience with DTC analysis
Demonstrated experience with bench-level and vehicle-level testing
Familiarity with functional safety concepts and validation workflows
Experience with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, J1939)
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, or Automotive Engineering
Preferred
Test automation and integration using Python
Advanced NI LabVIEW development (custom VIs, models)
Experience with MATLAB/Simulink model-based development
Exposure to ISO 26262, ASPICE, or emissions regulations
CI/CD integration for automated test execution
Master's degree
