Responsibilities
Design, develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL applications running on the IBM z/OS mainframe platform
Work extensively with IMS databases (IMS/DB) for data modeling, access, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
Develop and support IMS/DC online transactions, ensuring high availability and reliability
Build, modify, and maintain CICS online programs, including transaction definitions and program interfaces
Write, enhance, and manage JCL for batch job execution, scheduling, restart/recovery, and error handling
Analyze existing mainframe applications to identify performance improvements, defect fixes, and functional enhancements
Participate in production support activities, including incident analysis, root cause resolution, and on-call support when required
Collaborate with system analysts, QA teams, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
Ensure compliance with enterprise standards related to security, data integrity, and operational controls
Support documentation efforts, including technical design documents, program specifications, and operational procedures
Qualification
Required
Strong hands-on experience in application development and maintenance in COBOL
Proven expertise in IMS database concepts, hierarchical data structures, and access methods
Experience developing and supporting online IMS/DC transactions
Solid understanding of CICS architecture, programming interfaces, and transaction processing
Strong ability to write, debug, and manage JCL for batch processing
In-depth working knowledge of IBM z/OS operating system
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
5+ years of experience in mainframe application development
Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, onsite enterprise environment
Preferred
Prior experience working with large US banks or major financial institutions, especially on core banking or high-volume transaction processing systems
Exposure to financial services domain concepts such as payments, lending, deposits, or customer data platforms
Basic understanding of mainframe system administration, including data set management, job scheduling, and security concepts (e.g., RACF or equivalent)
Experience with performance tuning and problem determination in IMS and CICS environments
Familiarity with tools such as File-AID, Abend-AID, ISPW/Endevor, or similar
