Responsibilities

Process payroll for salaried employees and faculty, with accuracy and confidentiality
Process and reconcile benefits deductions and employer contribution, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Maintain confidential employee records, including wages, deductions, benefits, PTO and tax information
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
Resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to employee payroll inquiries in a timely manner
Ensure timely deposits of employee paycheck deductions, such as 401(K)
Manage 401(k), workers’ compensation and other payroll-related audits
Identify opportunities to improve payroll process, enhancing efficiency and accuracy
Work closely with HR and other departments to ensure smooth payroll operations
Provide training and guidance to the AP & Payroll Specialist responsible for processing hourly employee payroll
Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities
Record payroll journal entries and reconcile payroll accounts, benefits and tax liabilities
Prepare and reconcile accounting entries for Health Center and Bookstore
Maintain fixed assets register, depreciation schedule, prepaid expenses and amortization schedule
Support workforce budgeting process
Support audits by providing schedules and documentation
Handle ad hoc financial reports and related duties as requested

Required

Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance
Minimum of 3 years of payroll experience
Knowledge of payroll, workers' compensation and employment tax regulations
Experience administering employee benefits, including health insurance and 401(k) plans
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with a solid working knowledge of spreadsheets and basic functions
High degree of integrity, strong work ethic and attention to details
Ability to organize and prioritize assignments in a multi-task environment
Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively
Self-starter with ability to work independently

Preferred

Experience with Great Plains, Paycom or other payroll systems is a plus
