Responsibilities
Develops, plans, maintains research and policy analysis. Oversees the general running of the laboratory. Manages the research agenda for the area
Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors the progress of projects, and provides supervision and guidance to the research personnel, research nurses and administrative staff
Oversees all aspects of the program activities including supply chain, budget management, grant applications and management, research administrative duties and others. Able to work independently and as part of the team
Develops, implements, and manages policies and procedures
Manages annual budget, negotiate service contracts, report on progress and/or authorize expenditures
Informs upper management of key activities and makes periodic progress reports
Works closely with internal departments regarding strategy and collaborative opportunities
Assists in the preparation of progress reports and grant proposals to both private foundations and governmental agencies. Works closely with the Office of Sponsored Projects on the submission of grants
Working in conjunction with Public Affairs, may create and edit various communications materials for the program, which may include printed materials, web site content and/or department newsletters
Assists with the preparation of abstracts, posters and presentations at professional meetings
Assists with recruiting and selection, hiring and terminating, training and development, performance evaluations, and salary planning
Manages research administration duties including human research, animal research and biosafety paperwork
Orders research supplies to conduct experiments
Manages calendar of research PI. Manage calendars and coordinate didactic sessions, conferences, and educational activities for trainees; support trainees' academic and professional development
Oversee the evaluation process of trainees, including performance assessments, feedback mechanisms, and evaluations from faculty; maintain accurate records of trainees' progress, milestones, and completion requirements
Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for the department. Facilitates collaboration between clinicians and research scientist, internal and external to the University

Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in science or a health administration related field
Five years of applicable experience
Excellent communication (including written and verbal), interpersonal, and problem-solving (including diplomatically handling problems of a sensitive and/or confidential nature) skills
Detail-oriented with superior organizational skills
Proficient at Microsoft Excel
Depending on research may require advanced level grant writing skills
Experience in medical research, biological sciences, health, public health, or directly related field
Experience in graduate medical education and/or academic medicine
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas
Preferred
Experience in medical research, biological sciences, health, public health, or directly related field, highly preferred
Experience in graduate medical education and/or academic medicine, preferred
