Responsibilities
Enumerates improved and unimproved real and personal property to determine fair value and assess taxes in accordance with prescribed schedules
Creates accurate and timely reports supporting the statistical evaluation of property; conducts reappraisal process reviews and makes adjustments as needed
Sketches property owners’ homes to provide for physical measurement; checks and verifies accuracy of measurements; calculates square footage of homes; interviews property owner to acquire interior improvement information
Inspects property and considers factors such as current market value, location of property, buildings, or replacement costs of general property appraisal; enters and retrieves property data into and from computer; utilizes aerial imagery or conducts property searches on computer and manually through legal descriptions
Computes amounts of taxes and writes report of determinations for public record
Checks structures to ensure that measurements are correct
Answers phone and provides property owners with information and answers appraisal related questions; drafts correspondence; maintains office files; and enters data into computer to create new accounts
Reads and learns to interpret warranty deeds, real estate contracts, property boundary surveys, legal descriptions, plats, and building plans and designs for use in determining values
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Must be able to successfully complete I.A.A.O. course 101 within two (2) attempts and within the one-year probationary period. Failure to do so may result in termination of employment
Possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Class D Driver's License
