The University of Minnesota’s Masonic Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism is seeking a Research Professional 5 to lead advanced research on the biology of aging. The role involves overseeing laboratory operations, implementing complex research protocols, and mentoring undergraduate students.

Responsibilities
Lead the execution and optimization of advanced mouse handling protocols, including complex survival surgeries, IP injections, and specialized tissue harvesting
Direct the implementation of multi-parameter flow cytometry, RT-PCR, and other sophisticated bench techniques; serve as the technical lead for troubleshooting and assay development
Provide intellectual leadership through independent data analysis, synthesis of results, and the primary/senior authorship of manuscripts, technical reports, and presentations of final results
Oversee and authorize the maintenance of comprehensive, detailed records of all experiments and procedures to ensure institutional compliance and data integrity across all laboratory databases and applications
Direct day-to-day laboratory operations in partnership with the Lab Manager; provide high-level coordination of shipping/receiving, supply chain strategy, and inventory systems to ensure program continuity
Establish and enforce biological, chemical, and physical safety protocols; lead the training and certification of new personnel to maintain rigorous safety standards
Manage the lifecycle of regulatory protocols, including the strategic drafting, submission, and revision of IACUC and IBC protocols
Mentor and supervise the technical work of undergraduate student workers, ensuring high-quality research outputs and professional development
Maintain accountability for laboratory coverage, including the management and coordination of occasional weekend hours as required by study timelines
Qualification
Required
PhD with one or more years of research training
Extensive experience with mice, in all areas of their use for experiments
Experience with multi-parameter flow cytometry on primary mouse immune cells
Willingness to perform mouse work within BSL2 and BSL3 levels and an understanding of mouse infections
Preferred
Experience in tissue culture work
Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills; comfort in working in a team
