Electrical and Instrumentation Specialist Engineer

Meador Staffing Services is seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Specialist Engineer to serve as the plant’s subject matter expert for all instrument and electrical systems. The role involves engineering oversight, reliability, compliance, and continuous improvement of plant electrical and instrumentation assets, while applying electrical engineering principles to design and support systems.

Responsibilities

Act as the SME for plant electrical and instrumentation systems, ensuring systems are properly installed, maintained, and operated in accordance with plant standards, industry best practices, and PSM Mechanical Integrity requirements
Support and maintain electrical systems operating across voltage ranges from 120V through 5KV
Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to troubleshoot and resolve electrical, instrumentation, hardware, and software issues impacting plant performance
Provide engineering support for the design, installation, commissioning, and startup of capital and maintenance-related projects
Strong in design and an understanding of what's installed and validating it will work within the constraints it's designed
Understanding of managing projects with on site I&E Technicians and working with contracted I&E techs
Understanding and able to run projects: example Updating motor protection relays and breaker relays for plant
Preference for balanced experience of both field instrumentation and electrical experience/exposure
Smaller plant and ability to step outside of job description and wear multiple hats
Strength with Instrumentation & Electrical a Must
Ensure all projects comply with NEC, NEMA, ISA , and internal engineering standards
Develop scopes of work, technical proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and project economic evaluations, including ROI and actual cost performance
Support maintenance planning by developing accurate job plans for routine maintenance and shutdown/TAR activities
Manage assigned project budgets, schedules, and contractor performance to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget
Serve as functional backup to the Controls Engineer as needed
Lead and coordinate internal teams and external contractors, including work assignments, priorities, schedules, and oversight
Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) , Management of Change (MOC) reviews, and special engineering projects
Complete MOCs as required to support project and maintenance execution
Resolve contractor-related issues and disputes in a timely and equitable manner
Support loss control initiatives through inspections, audits, hazard reviews, safety recommendations, and completion of corrective actions
Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational and organizational objectives

Required

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrument Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience with non-degree 15+ years experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably within a chemical or petrochemical manufacturing environment
Strong experience troubleshooting and specifying electrical and instrumentation equipment in industrial plant settings
Solid understanding of plant electrical systems, including power distribution, grounding, lighting, protection, and control systems
Working knowledge of ISA standards, NEMA standards, and the National Electrical Code (NEC)

Preferred

Experience with industrial VFDs, motor protection relays, electric heat tracing systems, SIS, and control platforms such as Allen-Bradley PLCs and/or Yokogawa CS 3000
Experience supporting Mechanical Integrity and/or Reliability Programs
