Engineering Technician
The DC Department of Human Resources is seeking an Engineering Technician to support the Multimodal Project Delivery Division within the District Department of Transportation. The role involves performing a variety of engineering assignments and analysis of data for the issuance of permits and various functions of the division.

Responsibilities
Performs a wide range of extremely complex research, development, design, evaluation, inspection, production, application, standardization, testing, or analysis involving the construction and/or maintenance of facilities, structures, systems, processes, equipment, devices, and/or materials
Reviews contractor/builder designs for the construction of such multi level structures and/or mixed commercial developments, having residential and/or retail use and involving complex construction design features
Prepares estimates of work, work hours, costs and quantities of materials and equipment, technical specifications, assessments, and special provisions for use in contractual documents relating to project design, construction, and related activities
Provides contractors and affected agencies with technical guidance and assistance regarding associated complex issues and problems
Qualification
Required
Six (6) to seven (7) years of relevant experience, one of which must have been equivalent to the CS-11 level
Specialized experience to include but not limited to proficiency in reading a variety of engineered plans to ascertain conformance with relevant regulations and standards
Demonstrated skill in the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of engineering devices
Extensive skill and ability to prepare and interpret drawings, plans, and specifications
Permit issuance experience and Strong oral and written communication skills relaying complex problems
Extensive skill set in providing management advisory in a wide range of technical engineering concepts
Strong Microsoft Suite experience, and data analysis software for qualitative and quantitative analysis reports
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics
At least 6 of the 24 semester hours must have been in drafting if the position has been designated by a drafting area of specialization
The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's Permit and be able to obtain a District Government Motor Vehicle Operator's Permit to operate passenger cars, pick-up trucks or vans to conduct field investigations
