Ensures that predetermined fundraising goals/designs are met and implements highly specialized program activities to achieve these goals
Maintain personal prospect/donor portfolio of principal gift ($250K+) prospects
Personally identify, cultivate, solicit, and provide stewardship for individuals, corporations and foundations capable of contributing principal gifts in excess of $1M
Oversee the design and execution of individualized strategies for the solicitation, negotiation, and successful closure of gifts, and the design and execution of personalized stewardship plans of $1M+ gifts to University Advancement
The EDOD's leadership is critical in ensuring unit development staff reach their fundraising goals in current and future comprehensive campaigns
Presents formal fundraising proposals to major donors and prospects or prepares senior management for the presentation of proposals
Prepare and edit proposals/presentations needed for the successful solicitation of gifts
Ensure Vice President, University Advancement, Associate VP, Development, and academic leadership are appropriately informed of planned solicitation activity at the major and principal gift level
Manages a portfolio of donor prospects that include the most influential, complex or highest capacity-rated donors
May maintain and manage portfolio(s) of senior campus leadership including the President and Vice President, UA
Strategically engage, prepare and brief academic leadership in the cohort to participate in major and principal gift cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
Engage academic leaders and development staff in on-going assessment of approaches in order to establish and sustain a donor-centered operation that serves the entire University
Qualify major gift prospects and solicit gifts directly
Personally identify, cultivate, solicit and provide stewardship for some key individuals, corporations and foundations capable of contributing principal gifts in excess of $1M+
Develops, creates, writes, implements, and/or evaluates individualized marketing plans and/or strategies for cultivation and solicitation of major gifts, gift planning or corporate / foundation prospects (strategies typically require a high degree of innovation)
Oversee the recruiting and training of volunteers to assist in appropriate capacities in the fundraising program
Utilize the services of and partner with University Advancement’s central service teams to maximize effectiveness of development programs
Writes complex proposals for solicitation of high-value individuals, corporate, and/or foundation prospects
Work collaboratively with other development officers, faculty, administrative personnel, and volunteers to coordinate successful cultivation and solicitation efforts
Collaborate with other University Advancement offices and academic leadership as appropriate
Analyzes needs and creates strategic and long-range plans for fundraising and other advancement programs and may have the authority to make commitments and precedent-setting decisions regarding program design, development, and procedures
Plan, implement, and maintain fundraising programs for activities to include efforts addressing current funding priorities, special events fundraising initiatives, and leadership in the development of individual and programmatic strategies
Oversee donor recognition and stewardship programs in the Cohort
Serves as an expert or lead development professional in a specialized area such as major/principal gifts, gift planning or corporate / foundation relations, or a specific academic discipline that includes, or potentially includes, donors capable of making very significant contributions to the University
Independently responsible for leading and directing a comprehensive fundraising program for Georgia State University to support campus funding priorities
In partnership with the Associate Vice President, Development Academic Affairs, and other senior university academic leaders and administrators, set fundraising priorities and related fundraising plans and strategies to meet goals for the programs and projects
Provide effective and efficient support to the team on issues related to University policies and procedures, development policy, management controls, accountability, risk management, performance standards, and strategic planning
Ensure that all of the above are in compliance with University regulations and policies
Undertake unique, sensitive, and confidential projects assigned by the Associate VP, Advancement, and participate in the ongoing development and implementation of short and long-term goals, objectives, management strategies, and policies affecting University Development operations
Develop procedures and strategies for gift solicitation, customizing the method of cultivation and solicitation to individual, corporate, or foundation needs at the principal gift level of $1 million+
Creates, establishes, and evaluates methods for building/maintaining prospect and volunteer constituencies and identifies, recruits, and directs the activities of high-level volunteers
Prepare annual cultivation and solicitation plans, as well as regular reports on achievements for University leaders
Provide guidance to the cohort’s Dean, faculty members, and professional staff regarding best practices in fundraising
Engage academic leaders and development staff in ongoing assessment of approaches in order to establish and sustain a donor-centered operation that serves the entire University
Oversee the design and management of programs implemented to engage volunteers and donors in activities benefiting the University, such as Deans’ advisory councils
In collaboration with University Advancement and Donor Engagement & Communications staff, develop and implement print and web-based publications and communications to support and promote fundraising activities and programs
Work with the VP, Advancement, and other Advancement/Development staff to develop short- and long-term strategies for the campus-wide fundraising programs for Georgia State University
Proactively collaborate with key campus leadership and provide input to strategic planning
Seek, evaluate and produce strategic planning methods
Strategic decisions and results have a major impact on the overall goals of the / program
Provides leadership and guidance in the delivery of staffing support to University Advancement and academic leadership
Exercise judgment and independent initiative in bringing information or issues to the VP, Advancement
As a senior leader for University Advancement, serve or appoint services on a variety of campus committees as may be requested on either an ongoing, one-time, or special project basis
Develop and/or review all fundraising proposals and feasibility studies for proposed fundraising programs, for review by, and with recommendations as to appropriate action
Oversee the prioritization of projects, programs, and activities
Provide counsel and propose strategies regarding the feasibility of raising private support for campus activities and projects not funded through state appropriations, such as endowments and physical facilities
Serves as a resource for the assigned area of expertise, interacting with prospects, donors, staff, and outside professionals to provide information, advice, and counsel regarding the assigned specialized program(s)
May oversee the work of professional and support staff
In concurrence with the VP, Advancement and Associate Vice President, Development recruits, selects, trains, and evaluates the directors of fundraising programs and staff personnel in development
Screen applications, interview candidates and either make selection decisions or recommend individuals for hire with dean or directors
On-board, train and assign work to new and continuing employees
Provide guidance on performance standards and University procedures
Independently conduct performance evaluations, including communication with subordinate
Make recommendations for salary increases including merits and reclassifications
Determine what discipline should be imposed for subordinates, with authority to apply such, and/or submits/recommends same to higher level management
Provide professional growth and training of staff
Establish and supervise procedures to ensure performance standards and compliance with University regulations and policies
With responsibility for overseeing a medium-to-large team, coach and mentor individuals/teams to improve job knowledge
May attend functions, meetings and serve on internal / external committees as a representative of Georgia State University Advancement
Communicate and coordinate with the Vice President, UA, Associate Vice President, Development, and appropriate academic leadership to assure that fundraising is appropriately consistent with the VP’s vision and with academic priorities; communicate and coordinate with the dean/directors and faculty
Create environments that enhance communication and collaboration between individuals within University Advancement, and others throughout Advancement and the campus overall
Serve as an advocate for Advancement and campus leadership development staff
Provide some general guidance and liaison with other professionals who, while not full-time development officers, have fundraising related responsibilities included in their duties
Participate in the review, analysis, and creation of University Advancement policies and procedures
Participate in other Georgia State University development activities including meetings, committees, etc. when requested to do so
Responsible for budget management, to include proposing annual budget requests, developing and implementing funding agreements, and continually assessing budgetary and staff requirements for all areas of responsibility
Serve as a thoughtful, collaborative and accountable team member

Required
Bachelor's degree and ten years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience
Master's degree preferred
