Responsibilities

Respond promptly and professionally to public inquiries via phone, online submissions, and in person
Interview potential complainants to gather relevant facts and assess complaint eligibility
Analyze, summarize, and document information received through online inquiries
Draft and prepare formal complaints and investigative case files
Determine jurisdiction by analyzing and applying relevant Indiana and Federal Civil Rights Laws
Prepare and send Notices of Complaint, interrogatories, and other official correspondence
Draft administrative motions, including dismissals and default orders, as required
Conduct research using databases to identify accurate contact information for respondents and witnesses
Maintain accurate records and assist with monthly reporting
Provide exceptional customer service while handling sensitive and confidential matters
Collaborate with Commission staff and refer calls or cases to appropriate departments
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

High School Diploma or GED
Minimum 6 months of administrative experience
Previous legal coursework or paralegal-related studies
Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to type with speed and accuracy
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
Practical knowledge of Indiana Civil Rights Law and Federal Civil Rights Laws

Preferred

Ability to interpret, analyze, and apply civil rights laws to discrimination cases
Experience applying Commission policies and procedures related to charges of discrimination
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly when working with the public
General knowledge of government agencies and interdepartmental functions
