Responsibilities
Assist in developing health and safety systems, programs and procedures to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses, and enhance the overall site safety culture resulting in management engagement, employee involvement and the reduction in unsafe conditions and behaviors
Participate on incident investigations to guide on finding root causes and identifying aligned long-term corrective actions
Perform facility audits, surveys and inspections to identify environmental, safety and occupational hazards and weaknesses, to promote effective practices and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and develop recommendations that provide solutions, remedies or process improvement
Participates, review and approves risk assessments such as: to Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ergonomic, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), new chemicals, and equipment assessments
Support all chemical and hazardous waste management, including transportation and documentation
Educate employees on how to prevent health problems using safety training programs and communications
Support on the monitoring of contractor activities to ensure compliance with West Safety Policies
Participate on projects for new equipment or improvement as safety representative
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
BS Degree in Environment, Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or science related field
3 to 5 years of experience in the HSE field
Must have knowledge of local and country HSE related regulations
Preferred
Manufacturing industry experience, preferred
OSHA 10 Upon Hire preferred
First Aid Certification preferred
Possess strong ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees and managers at all levels of the organization
Ability to read, interpret and write documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Demonstrated ability to train
Strong planning and organizational skills
Analytical problem solving
Able to track information and conduct audits
Ability to work irregular hours on occasion to support 24/7 operation
Ability to communicate with all levels of employees
Ability to give feedback and instructions to help others to reach excellence in doing their present or future tasks at work
Competent in the Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Outlook, Excel)
