VP of Physical Production

The Vice President of Physical Production is responsible for managing show budgets, administrative operations, and logistical coordination throughout the production process, ensuring projects remain on schedule and under budget while maintaining creative integrity.

Responsibilities

Provide guidance to show productions on Shondaland and Studio/Network policies and protocols
Act as point on all internal Shondaland questions regarding union rules, travel rules, insurance, safety, legal concerns, and risk management
Liaise between Shondaland and Studio/Network counterparts (BA, Casting, HR, Finance, etc.)
Researching, scouting, negotiating, and oversight of new space for production teams with studio lot and off-studio lot facilities, including Writers’ Rooms and Showrunner offices
Collaborate with other Shondaland departments to help obtain materials they may need on the show production level – Publicity, Social Media, Marketing etc. – and ensure all teams are in-sync. Ensure any product placement or branded partnership deliverables are achieved by production
Review and stay current on all daily production reports for shows
Engage BA and legal counsel to resolve production-related deal or legal issues as they arise
Research employment status of key crew for upcoming/ongoing projects
Develop and generate new initiatives/projects to streamline processes on all Shondaland shows
Track film commissions and tax incentives from all the states and across the world
Remain available for on-call, after hours, and work/travel weekends, as needed
Travel and supervise productions on location, as needed
Support the creative goals for production by making appropriate production, financial and logistical recommendations
Supervise Production Manager and Executive Assistant
Build proposed budgets for new shows based on Studio ballpark figures in collaboration with accountants and showrunners
Evaluate unscripted producing partners’ production and creative plans in relation to viability of incoming projects
Facilitate key creative approval sessions
In tandem with studio policies, ensure the set adheres to all health, safety, and labor laws. Manage risk assessment and production insurance claims
Monitor transition from production to post, ensuring assets and wrap books are delivered correctly

Required

Highly organized and experienced
Responsible for managing show budgets, administrative operations, and logistical coordination from pre-production through delivery
Ensure production remains on schedule and under budget without compromising the creative integrity of the show
Manage all details associated with projects currently in pre-production, production, post-production, and the forecasting of potential projects
Operate at a team-lead level
Work closely with the Chief Content Officer, Creative Development and Post-Production teams
Collaborate and work in sync with other internal teams at Shondaland, as well as external counterparts
Oversee the day-to-day physical production of scripted and unscripted series, documentaries, and feature films at Shondaland
Collaborate with producers of all levels to hire key department heads
Provide clear and positive leadership and growth-focused mentorship to the Physical Production Team

Maintain strong industry relationships and a network of reliable crew and vendors worldwide
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Projects confidence, discretion, professionalism and is persuasive, as required
Tech savvy; must learn new software quickly and easily; mastery of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
Must have a strong working knowledge of Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting
Experience as a line producer or unit production manager is required
A minimum of 7 years' experience as a leader in production management in the field or at a network level for scripted series
Comfortable with and available for significant domestic and international travel

Preferred

Experience working in creative development is a plus
Production experience in the UK/Canada a plus
