Computational Fluid Dynamics Aerospace Engineer

The role involves performing key analytical and modeling tasks in aerodynamic design and trajectory optimization for weapons systems, while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop high-fidelity computational models.
Responsibilities
Develop, validate, and execute high-fidelity CFD simulations
Generate aerodynamic databases and coefficients for use in 6-DoF trajectory simulations and performance models
Perform trajectory optimization, mission analysis, flight envelope analysis, and performance trade studies (e.g., payload-range, energy-maneuverability, endurance/loiter optimization)
Conduct stability and control analysis, including trim analysis, dynamic stability assessments, and evaluation of stability derivatives
Support multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) efforts, including integration of aerodynamic models with propulsion, structures, and controls
Assist engineering leadership in diagnosing performance issues, evaluating design trade-offs, and recommending optimizations
Prepare clear technical documentation, analysis summaries, charts, and presentations for internal reviews and external stakeholders
Contribute to process improvements by recommending advanced CFD methods, trajectory tools, optimization algorithms, or workflow enhancements
Qualification
Required
At least 5 years of experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) applied to aerospace systems, with demonstrated expertise in aerodynamic modeling, performance analysis, and trajectory optimization
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field
Proficiency in CFD tools (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, or similar) and post-processing environments
Strong programming skills for modeling and analysis (e.g., Python, MATLAB/Simulink, Fortran, or C++), including scripting for automation of simulations and data reduction
Experience generating and using aerodynamic data for trajectory simulation, mission analysis, and performance trade studies
Familiarity with trajectory optimization techniques, stability and control analysis, trim calculations, and stability derivatives
Ability to interpret engineering requirements, specifications, and aerospace standards (e.g., MIL-STD, DO-178, or similar)
Strong analytical mindset with rigorous attention to validation, verification, and engineering accuracy
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain security clearance or background-screening requirements
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-oriented environment
Preferred
Master's or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or related field with focus on aerodynamics or flight mechanics
Experience with multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) frameworks and tools
Prior work on weapon systems, missiles or other defense/aerospace platforms
Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) for large-scale CFD simulations
